Welcome to the ninth issue of Malaysian Construction Research Journal (MCRJ). The editorial team would like to extend our gratitude to all authors and reviewers for their continuous contributions and valuable comments. It is hope that the readers will find beneficial information from this edition of MCRJ. Six papers are discussed in this issue.

Roles and Function of Facilities Management Implementation in Hospital

The aim of this document is to explain the roles and functions of Facilities Management (FM) implementation in hospital. This document shall be read together with other relevant content for the construction of the hospital. The bidder should have understood the term FM mentioned in any parts of the contract and specification for the above mentioned project from the explanation given. It is not the intention of this report to cover all aspects of FM within the scope of contract and specification but it serves as a simple explanation and represents part of the overall PFI contract to better understand the implementation of FM at hospital. It is the duty and responsibility for the bidder to make enquiries to the relevant parties should the explanation given here is not sufficient.

Strategic IT in Facilities Management for Malaysian Health Sector

This paper briefly examines one case study of a teaching hospital in Malaysia to explore the current uptake of IT in FM and to learn whether the Strategic IT in FM framework developed from NHS Trusts practices in UK, is applicable to the Malaysian health sector environment. The Malaysian case study examines the effectiveness of the framework in that situation in order to develop a preliminary understanding of FM in Malaysian hospital which setup the scene for future work in this field. This paper also aims to look at the current uptake of IT in FM for that particular hospital and to explore further on the potential implementing strategic IT in FM to be taken by relevant authority in Malaysia.
